Steely Dan – Any Major Dude Will Tell You Lyrics 13 years ago
Good notion, but not necessarily. Noj 10 says it's a very important person who has his stuff together, and doctorwu states that it's a friend, any friend, who would tell you that you won't always feel so bad. There's only one Christ (unless you're polytheistic, of Religious Science belief, or a megalomaniac), but there can be many, many major dudes.

Erectile dysfunction ... really? You gotta please explain that one, Friend. "Erectile dysfunction" just doesn't come readily to mind in light of all of the other comments in this section that are quite in agreement with each other, and none of which are in agreement with you.

Steely Dan – The Caves of Altamira Lyrics 13 years ago
The others who commented on this phrase should help you. "When there wasn't even any Hollywood," could refer to (1) prehistoric man, who wrote on caves and "saw the[ir own] writing on the wall" that inspired them to create more and more and usher in civilization and more elaborate[d] creativity; (2) your own childhood and how art and music were born in your soul before Hollywood had any effect on your mind and soul, as you wrote on the wall [developed your own "innocent" art; or even used crayons to physically draw on walls, the forerunner of movies, of course]; or (3) the art of entertainment prior to movies, such as vaudeville, when the "writing on the wall" was their stage performances. "Writing on the wall," of course, also refers to a time of judgment, as related in Daniel 5:1-30 when the Babylonian Empire of Belshazzar, son of Nebuchadnezzar, was overthrown and divided by the Medes and Persians. This was CENTURIES before anthing called "Hollywood" came around! More personally, the "time of judgment" in an artist's life, is when he or she sees the "writing on the wall," when he or she must make a decision as to how art and music will work and will be created in and through their lives. This decision is made in a person's life before the work of Hollywood actually influences him or her.
