Guys, Lou Reed was a musical genius, but also totally demeaning to women. Truth. This song encompasses many women, poor women, who attempted to allure men or women for something more, money, status, etc. Lou Reed was bisexual, and early in his success, warped by drugs, he and others dangled drugs to these women, knowing they would do anything for another hit or fix. Lou and band members so toyed with these women with obvious delight, and pushed the boundaries too far, because they also were strung out. One of the greatest songs of my generation, its definitely underrated and little exposed. Marvelous, caring lyrics and a haunting piano. I don't like the way it dies out at the end, but I could listen to it over and over. |
