Foals – This Orient Lyrics 13 years ago
Firstly, the whole Western superiority comments need to stop! I mean, seriously! Do you think an intelligent math-rock indie band from Oxford, of which many of the members have mixed descent and a penchant for travel, with lyrics as amazing as this are going to be writing a song about how the West is better than the East? Like some kind of dick measuring contest against Asia? Grow up!

Onto my own interpretation. As a person who has been abroad, and indeed to Asia, it reminds me of times when I first arrive, jet lagged, tired but excited as I travel through the city centre by car at night on my way to the hotel. Moreover, the Western feeling is the feeling of culture shock, which again, is part of the excitement and unknowing of being thousands of miles from home and an alien to your surroundings. The excitement of the song leads the listener to a feeling of anticipation and excitement for the upcoming experience of discovery in 'this Orient'.
