I know my interpretation will sound a bit cliche, but I think the lyrics refer to Jesus, his suffering and the lost faith of humanity. The sentences "You carried the weight of everyone" and "Bled for the right to see it through" allude to the role of Jesus as the savior of the world, according to Christian gospels. "Rewriting the rules that now we bend" and "We asked for the truth and now we know" might refer to the New Testament, and humanity's inability to live according to those principles. "You left alone, defeated us", "Why did you head out? Hide from our eyes now" talk about Christ's ascension and our inability to perceive him in this world. I am not an overly religious person, but I instantly associated the lyrics with this topic. |

| Gojira – L'enfant Sauvage Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
The first stanza describes the development of the author from an adapted member of society to a wild child (=l'enfant sauvage) which despises institutions but lives a more authentic life in accordance with his inner values. The second stanza talks about a person that failed to free himself and thus remains caught up in a cage - a metaphor for a controlled, contained existence. The last stanza addresses the listener and asks him to use his anger as long as there is time. |
