It is STAYING just to get along chorus: Best, FINEST surgeon etc. Annie Clark said it herself she got the chorus line from Marilyn Monroe's diary--somebody aint reading the comments! (I tried to find the "lyric correction" for type of comment but it doesn't appear) To me the "blue and red" stood for bruises, however not literally, but mentally being beat up and just tired. "A little something to get along" keeps her from giving up on her life, that perhaps she can use the depressed feelings she has to push through to a better life. Someone else wrote the blue and red line stood for "blue=sad red=anger" but all in all I think we've got the same meaning :) |

Holy shit...100% agree with you BkBJ. I thought some of the same things but you just stripped it down to every line! I never got the "pouring my purse in the dirt" part but how clear it is it's about her own baggage now! And "honest thieves" I thought she was continuing with the "bad guys" line, in that she hangs out with the wrong people, but I think it makes more sense in that the people did bad things but they are HONEST about it and she accepts them still, so WHY is she trying to hide herself when she accepts others flaws? Actually, this whole putting on a "fake smile" thing is relevant in her What Me Worry song too. Seems Annie Clark is used or gets pushed around a lot, maybe that's why Iove her songs so much. But I liked the tune first, regardless, coolness! |

this is without a doubt about a relationship that someone is desperate to stay in. "I'm crawling through landmines Just to know where you are" she'll do anything to stay in the relationship, even though the effort is hurting her. "There's smoke in my eyes cause you're burning the ground" and her lover is trying to cut off their ties, whether it's because it's for the better good, or because they enjoy being in control of her. "I put a pearl in the ground" metaphorically she will sacrifice the most precious of things just to be with them (regardless of the explosives haha?). In the end, she knows she "planted them" the bombs, essentially she knows she's hurting herself. Her heart in the ground is her final attempt to stay together or bring her lover back. As for the verses I dont really get em, I think the end she is finding more clues about her lover, perhaps he's disappeared. MAYBE THIS IS ALL ABOUT THE DEATH ABOUT HER LOVE. Lol I don't know but I just wanted to write this, it's long but I love the way it's written. One of my faves from her. |
