you could look at it very literally- someone's fighting in a war (specifically the civil war, as in the video) OR you could look at it as Nate Ruess's confusion and regrets about the breakup of the format. for example- "some nights i wish that my lips could build a castle" he enjoys the fame fun. has brought him "some nights i wish they'd just fall off" he dislikes the pressure "my heart's breaking for my sister... when i look into my nephew's eyes" he's had a hard time leaving his family for this and so it goes on. personally, i am IN LOVE with this song, it inspires me so much and nate's voice... 'nough said. |
