I also think this song is about Joe Walsh's daughter, Emma. He's saying that we need to appreciate what we have and live in the moment because it doesn't last. To me the song means that we should place just as much importance on the present as we do on the past or future. Although it's nice to reminisce (things to remember) and looking back once in a while is good, we can't dwell on or explain why things happened in the past. It's also important to look ahead (places to go) but it's foolish to wish for things or try to predict the future (wishing well fools with your fortunes). The rose symbolizes something that we need to stop and smell once in a while, appreciate what we have because we can't go back in time and tomorrow may not come. |
