| LCD Soundsystem – New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| i don't think they're wrong, songs are open to interpretation right so dont be an ass, this is the best one i've read on this song. Like it actually makes sense to the band and whatnot and it all links together and it's more thoughtful than the other shit i've read so fuck you all, i agree with RhettBoarders3 xox | |
| Dry The River – The Chambers & The Valves Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think this is about his journey through life and how he could do anything he wants but he's bound by religion, he has all these ideas of life and how perfect it could be but religion, despite all it's flaws and mistakes, always manages to beat him. So he keeps his mouth shut and carries on. The title itself I think is representative of science. Science and religion are often battled, so I think it shows the conflict he's swallowed and keeping inside. Also the idea of two hearts gives the impression of his consistent love, young and old, and the repeated last lines of the first and third verse could show how his life is repetitive and never-changing despite his growing old. Maybe I'm over thinking it all, but I think it's beautiful. x |

| Dry The River – History Book Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
okay, this is going to be long but this song means a lot to me and i've listened to it so much i have a pretty good interpretation of the entire thing. bare with me, it's going to be long. xo Like faithful oxen through the chalk, With dragging tails of history walk. Soon confuse the compass and the cross. Carefully and cursively we fill our traveling diaries with loss. He's talking about the woman he loves, how she's basically like oxygen to him. He can't live without her. They've made a lot of memories and in their travels they've gotten lost from religion. the actual 'history book' basically refers to their past so they've filled it with loss, but the loss of religion i think and people who are religious like family and friends and such. Beneath an angry Bible flood, Did you and I first learn to love. In my father's car we came to know. And shivered in our painted clothes and paired like every animal below. You're meant to not have sex before marriage when you're religious so they shagged i suppose and that's basically it. My friend went through this with me, it's basically just that and how it shows they're rebelling against their family and religion and joining with nature, hence the animal reference. As heavy as a history book can be, I will carry it with me, oh Lord. And maybe when the bitterness has gone, There'll be sweetness on our tongues once more. He's talking to God and being like "Well whatever it may be a lot to deal with but I'm not going to just drop it. And maybe when the people have gotten over the fact we're in love and that we're not going to abide by his rules then everything will be okay again." Barefoot in a rowing boat, You lose your shoes and freeze your toes. And say I wear my sorrow like a crown. And throw your arms around my head, and see it there in gold and red and brown. Pretty much another line about sex. Red and Gold are probably quite religious colours (i'm not religious, i don't know) and brown is a bit like mud so it links back to the whole idea of joining nature and leaving God. I think the crown bit shows that even though he's sad about loosing everyone, he's his own king now, he's in charge of his own life, not God and maybe his girl is congratulating him with boat sex or something. As heavy as a history book can be, I will carry it with me, oh Lord. And maybe when the bitterness has gone, There'll be sweetness on our tongues once more. (SAB) We'll soon forget our parents' names, Like dogs we'll drive the wolves away. And weep with fingertips opposed, Like a church where nobody congregates. Everything will be forgotten. They may be weak but they can stand strong against their opposition (dogs vs wolves). And they may be sad but they're not a church so they're happier. I really can't explain the last line but it makes so much sense in my head. It's like they're weeping in the same way they'd pray, much like the pastor at their church must be when people stop congregating there. Something like that, I dont know. But sweetness sings in the pasture, We throw ourselves on the mercy of the earth. If sand and salt have the answer, Then the act itself will be louder than the word. The good times are in like fields so nature so lets just go for it and live there instead of being all religous. If nature has the answer then having sex before marriage is more powerful than preaching about it. And I'll be on your side. He'll be on her side. That's my interpretation, thank you if you got this far, sorry if you don't like it and also sorry if it's wrong, i'm not a part of Dry The River so i can't really say i know what it's about. That's all really, thank you if you liked it :) xox |

| Iron & Wine – Jezebel Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think it's about a guy who fell in love with a prozzie. But it could also be about sexism. ie, it may be all about how he's in love with this woman but she's a sex object and all the men want to sleep with her but that could be a representation of how women are treated in society. Some men love them and some men see them as sex objects | |
| Beast – Mr. Hurricane Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I think this song is about someone who's got a split personality and it's a song about their therapy. (Sorry it's so long, it does explain a lot though) The Beast is her therapist. Mr Hurricane is her other personality. Verse 1: basically saying she didn't really have anything and she felt really isolated and then one day 'a beast' came (a therapist) and tried to make her better. 'I never had a homeland, I had no safety' - she's not emotionally stable and because of this she doesn't feel like she fits in anywhere (homeland). 'One day I saw a beast coming from across the sea' - usually the sea is linked to tranquility but in this case I think she see's the world like she's on her own little island and someone coming over the sea is like they're invading her space and her little isolated island. 'I never knew fear until he came for me' - she's scared about the therapy. 'I drank from his river, it ruined my life' - I think this bit is talking about the 'killer' she mentions just before as opposed to the beast. The killer I think is her split personality fighting against the therapy, ie, she called out for a killer and because the killer is herself she looked for a knife. The killer though she see's as a separate person and so the line above could mean the killer has done things before after she called for him and it always went badly. If that makes sense? 'I never knew emotion till he caught me in his fold' - he is the therapist again and to begin with she's really scared and convinced the therapy isn't necessary (I saw him coming at me empty and so cold), empty meaning empty in what it can give to her. But as soon as he catches her in his fold (could represent the fold on the paperwork but I reckon it's just his therapy room) he treats her and she gets happier, an emotion she didn't know until he helped her. 'Can you imagine living one more day with a beast right up in your face?' - she's still not sure about the therapy. 'Can you see me dying in this house, in any house' - is her split personality going to die in her body, in any body for that matter? 'Saw a man in vain, blinded by the hurricane' - the hurricane is her other self flipping out and getting angered, hence his name Mr Hurricane. The beast is the man in vain, meaning he's quite up himself for being a therapist and then Mr Hurricane gets blinded by the anger towards the beast. Chorus: her talking to herself, reassuring herself she'll get better. '(Broke out of the harness) Let it go, let it go' - Mr Hurricanes broken out but she's letting him go, repeating to make it sound more insane and like she's worried about letting him go. '(Stumbled in the darkness) Turn on the lights y'all' - she started out scared but now she knows what to do. ie, she used to be in the dark but she know what to do about that, turn on the lights. '(Overcome the madness) then take you're pills' - speaks for itself really. '(Finally Righteous) I love the beast y'all' - finally beaten Mr Hurricane hence she loves her therapist 'the beast' Verse 2: 'I stopped being the victim but you weren't there to see' - talking to Mr Hurricane, she's possibly angry he's not there anymore. 'I never felt bitter until you crippled me' - a cripple is someone who is missing a leg or arm or has no use of them. This could be her way of saying she didn't feel bad until Mr Hurricane was gone, maybe now she's missing him. 'I never fell in love so deeply in vain' - vanity is where you're all over yourself so she could say she was in love with herself, Mr Hurricane. The beginning lines I'm not too sure of but I assume they're about her feelings towards loosing him. 'Never again Mr Hurricane' - all the next part are her thinking about the horrible feeling he's giving her, like all the paranoia and whatnot, probably social isolation and all, and so she says 'Never again' because i'll never happen again. Outro: 'Don't mess with the beast, Mr Hurricane. You're not coming for peace stop bringing the insane' - this makes the most sense of everything I've covered so I don't really need to go through it. Sorry it's so long, thank you for reading, if you got this far anyway. |
