For Squirrels – Mighty Kc Lyrics 13 years ago
yes, it was about Kurt. the 1,2,300 dead if memory serves was referencing the suicides that soon followed. I worked freelance for MTV at the time and this growing trend was vastly under reported by most outlets for fear of escalation. For Squirrels, from FL would have been aware of this. This boom in suicides was one of the reasons for public statements made by Courtney (don't even get me started), Krist, Dave and others. And to Musixex, are you kidding? "...He lies in an empty room with his hair burnt to the back". Just how do you think his hair got that way? Shotgun perhaps?
Of course the title is a play on "the might casey at bat" by Ernest Thayer but Casey becomes K.C. for Kurt.
This song never fails to bring tears to my eyes especially considering the deaths the band would soon suffer which almost seem foreshadowed by the song. A really tragic time actually with Layne following though in a far slower fashion
The only song in my opinion that did justice to its subject and in a far from overt way that Kurt would have approved of. Still miss him
