Catnaps – Lullaby Lyrics 6 years ago
To me, the song seems to be about a relationship where there is a certain spark, but which fails to take off when the singer tries to move beyond infatuation. Anyway, it's a good example of lyrics doing a lot with small gestures. The second verse about the pigeons is brilliant!

The Field Mice – And Before the First Kiss Lyrics 12 years ago
The chopped up nature of the lyrics fits perfectly with the subject and the protagonist's obvious hesitation and ambiguity. The arrangement of the song is as close to perfection as you can possibly come, being a mere mortal. I think of this as one of the great indie masterpieces of all time.

Tullycraft – The Lonely Life of a UFO Researcher Lyrics 12 years ago
I like how the lyrics can be as meaningful to a believer as to a skeptic. And it breaks my heart every time I listen to it.

I'd call it a major masterpiece. ;-)

Hefner – I Love Only You Lyrics 12 years ago
"In the 1980s / I was busy hating" must be the best opening of a song ever.

Darren Hayman once wrote that the lyrics for this song are supposed to be funny.

Glasvegas – Geraldine Lyrics 13 years ago
James has been quoted as having said "Love won't save your life, but a social worker will".

I don't know if he actually said it, but it's very true, I think.

Vapnet – Färjemansleden Lyrics 13 years ago
This is a rough translation, in case non-Swedes would like to know what the song is about:

111 the bus is called
Because it takes 111 hours
To go to town
And now with David
Next to me
We carry some stuff together
We wear similar clothes
Carry hate and rural shame
We hide our smell

Autumn light
Casts the bus' shadow
Softly down across the water
Softly down across the lake
And across Färjemansleden[1]
We switch forests for parks
We switch our friends
Until nothing's left
Of Valla and Kastal[2]

[1] A street in the small town of Östersund, leading from suburban and rural areas into town. All songs on the album are named from streets of Östersund.

[2] "Valla and Kastal" refers to Vallaskolan and Kastalskolan, the schools that David of the lyrics and Martin Abrahamsson, the writer, went to, respectively, before they moved into town to start highschool.

This Perfect Day – Headache Lyrics 13 years ago
You might say that this was the song that made me discover indie pop.

Looking back I guess that the lyrics describe the kind of girl I fall for. :-/

Was this written before or after the Rodney King incident and the subsequent riots?

This Perfect Day – Dolphins Lyrics 13 years ago
"Tchiibapedodidong
This is a dolphin song"

That must be the best piece of nonsense lyrics ever... :-)
