Dont hold it against me for my interpritation however I think among other things this song is about a wedding. He sings alot about love and letting love go and i think the new year refers to the inhability to get this girl back. She invited him to the wedding with a post card that says "Wish you were here" So he ends up Noone at the wedding likes him. He is ignored and talked over and he is not happy behind his fake smiles. he speaks about his feelings and wishing he wasnt here and he is not trying to be so full of contempt and wants to know if he can genuinely be happy for her.. finaly he says "damage control! theres a ring around her finger" so the wedding seremony took place and now theres no going back. Welcome to the new year. |
