Fleet Foxes – Montezuma Lyrics 13 years ago
As in tiger mountain peasant song, Robin includes a few lines about being afraid of dying alone. In Tiger Mountain Peasant Song it was the line, "Staggering through premonitions of my death, I don't see anybody that dear to me". In this it's, "I wonder if I'll see any faces above me, or just cracks in the ceiling". I think this is reflected in a lot of his music; not being loved by anyone in the end.

A few songs on this album are simply about him being afraid of dying alone. At least a few parts of a few songs, maybe not the whole song. In this song, the lines "Staggering through premonitions of my death, I don't see anybody that dear to me" are the ones that talk about that in this song.

The Microphones – The Mansion Lyrics 13 years ago
I feel, even as an atheist, that this is a song about a perception of afterlife. I feel at the start that he's talking about how your life on earth was not very pleasant, then goes on to explain how great afterlife is. And that in this afterlife, nothing you knew from your life on earth applies anymore "there's no heat, there's no expansion", "No fingers in my hair", when he goes on to say "there's no ceiling in the mansion" I believe he is saying this afterlife is limitless. "No waste, no hesitation" meaning everything in this afterlife is good and you don't have to worry about a thing. The line "No crack of dawn, no morning, just an everlasting warming" once again shows that the stuff you knew on earth no longer applies and that the afterlife is an "everlasting warming", a good thing. Great song.
