He's obviously talking about a dog from the dog's perspective. It's clear as day in this verse: Even I will have my day -- (Every dog will have his day) I scratch and paw to get my way -- (c'mon man) Come closer Oh, I won't bite (again..c'mon) It feels so good to have me in the fight (have a dog in the fight) I like it. makes me think about my pup. And you got one part wrong: It's not "My hero's howlin' " It's "Might hear us howlin'" |

I'm think the part where you have: "And you know you still bother" is actually: "And it ain't no use to bother" |

| I always get the image of a child overhearing his mother on the phone with her mother. The song is entirely one-sided and definitely from a woman's perspective. I suppose the child overhearing it is just how I add in Ben. | |

I love the reference to the photographs. "And the photographs Know I'm a liar, They just laugh as I burn her down" That is brilliant. |

LOVE this song! I think this song is coming from someone who knows their time is near and they are at peace with that. Through all the hard times and good they are happy with the way they have lived their life, and now they know they will be at rest. Just my take. Hope I'm right, but love it even if I'm wrong. |
