| I think this song is about being a proper proper introvert and relating to how you see yourself in the world. The lines "took for granted that things would always went my way" suggests a passive influence on the world around her as she is growing up without knowing it using her highly sensitive nature coupled with her optimism to subtly and without knowing control her environment. "I don't always get it right, I see it in a different kind of light" - the conflict of having to navigate through life somewhat pleasing others in order not upset them - this is common for people highly introverted as they see things differently to the dominant philosophy in society. "Pay my lip service" - make the necessary conversation needed to get through life so she can get on with what she really wants to do. I'd always thought it's automatic to grow into a soulless static" - "here I am on the same spot, attempting to lift off into space" - I think this means how she thought she would become like everybody else as she got older, the way that she saw others, but she has realised that she is different to most people, keeping her somewhat childlike enthusiasm into adulthood. | |
