Alanis Morissette – I Was Hoping Lyrics 13 years ago
after listening to this song many times, I have decided that it's about a man who is having troubles in his marriage and he is having an affair with someone much younger than him. It was exciting in the beginning, and he was hoping that she would be somehow..... different. He now realizes that her "different" is not what he was looking for, and he's having second thoughts. Marriage is a tough business - you love someone for who they are, warts and all, through good times and bad. If you aren't all in, the alternative is "I was Hoping..."

Alanis Morissette – Princes Familiar Lyrics 13 years ago
I have always related this song to my husband and my daughter. He has so many wonderful traits, and I hope that she recognizes what it means to be respected, loved and enjoyed for the incredible human being she is. He has certainly shown her love, gentleness, attentiveness, curiosity, humor and respect, but I want her to have her own thoughts of what constitutes a true "prince". However, I don't want him to be too "enigmatic" - too much room for... whatever! I want him to be just like.....

Alanis Morissette – That I Would Be Good Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree, shallremain. This song is all about affirmation, whether from yourself or from the person that matters most to you. We all want to know that we have something that makes us lovable and relevant in someone else's life. If we don't have that, we are then relating to her song "joining you" - and while that is a fantastic song, you DO NOT want to be relating to it.

Alanis Morissette – Joining You Lyrics 13 years ago
I have a completely different take on this song. My impression is that this call was made to HER - these are all the reasons her friend gave her for not giving in to her suicidal thoughts. These friends hadn't spoken in many years, but when they did, those years fell away and it was one old friend reminding another that, yes, everyone is different, everyone has problems, and everyone needs to do what is right for them. If this friend didn't believe that to be true, she would be joining her in her suicidal thoughts, but she is urging her to look at it from another perspective. Just one more viewpoint to throw into the mix!
