I think that this song is about a relationship between two people who shouldn't be together. One that everyone knows is not going to work out from the very beginning. He knows he will break her heart someday. But that doesn't mean he doesn't love her or leaving her isn't the last thing on his mind. It seems like most of the other comments are about a new relationship and knowing whether or not it will work out. But I guess I hear it as a more complicated relationship...The terms like "wayward ship," "cheap perfume,oh, it never lies and can't supply any good alibis," "compromise how i live," and everything about going home make me wonder if this is about falling in love and pursing a relationship outside of your primary relationship. I guess I feel like its saying i know this will end and we will be heart broken, but lets enjoy it while we still can (so when i go, kiss real slow). |
