Wow. I've been listening to this song for so long and always though it was "We are the sons of no one". According to an INTERVIEW with Westerburg (that I stumbled onto tonight) it's actually "Wait on the sons of no one." Check it: http://www.greendayauthority.com/articles/136/5/ What. The. Fuck. |

Used to listen to the Goo's a lot. Then I found out about The Replacements and haven't really looked back much. Still have a bit of a soft spot for some of the Goo's songs though, because I used to listen to them so, so much when I was younger. Johnny has always said that The Replacements were a huge inspiration for him (he even apologized for ripping them off when he was interviewed about them). Knowing the above, this song really seems to be written about Paul Westerberg, the singer for The Replacements. The line "Ain't no smokin' dope singer, swingin from a rope singer" seems to reference two songs by The Replacements: "Dope Smokin' Moron" and "Swingin Party". The guy was one of the biggest alternative rock heroes of the 80's and was notorious (along with the rest of his band) for getting too drunk and fucked up and screwing up their chance of ever getting big. (Even the break down at the end of this song brings to mind the 'bounciness' of some of The Replacements material). That being said they were still one of the best groups of the 80's underground rock scene. If you like The Goo Goo Dolls check out The Replacements and find out where they got their sound from. You won't regret it. |

| I can't believe there are still songs off of Let It Be that don't have comments. This is the most punk song that Westerberg ever wrote. | |
