Matt Costa – Mr. Pitiful Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about being mad at a friend. The friend is always letting the person down and really only wants to be the narrator's friend when they are in need (Oh Mr. Pitiful, who let you down?) Sort of like, nice of you to show up you must need something.
The friend and the narrator are sort of always tense and butting heads in the way that one minute the friend will come around (When your soap box unfolds) and be friends with the narrator, but the next they're unavailable again (Please come down from that cloud your sitting on). For some reason they are in a fight, but the friend is too stubborn to admit they were at fault (I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong), the narrator just wants to forget all about it.
The narrator can't stop obsessing over the issue and wants the friend to acknowledge them (Don't make me feel bead that we're still friends/ Mulling it over in my bed). The friend isn't coming around and the narrator wants them to realize that they are mad and that the friend needs to come around (I hope that you see through your big yard and whit picket fence/ To make amends and still be friends).
The fighting is sort of a constant thing, whether or not both parties notice it. The friend is always letting the narrator down for something or someone else (where did you go when I was out?) But over and over again the narrator has given them the benefit of the doubt and forgiven them (I don't believe everything I see). They want to know why the friend continues to be their friend even though they give up on them all the time and clearly don't care about the friendship as much as the narrator (If you don't like the movie then quit acting).
For some reason, the narrator still wants to be friends with this person, but they want to be treated fairly (Please come down, from that cloud you're sitting on). Yet they know that the friend will never see their faults (I don't expect you to admit that you were wrong). Of course, even though they are still mad, the narrator wants to reach out to the friend (Just want to know how you've been). But they cant let go of their anger (Don't make me feel bad that were still friends, mulling it over in my bed). The next lyrics can be interpreted in two ways: The narrator continues this vicious cycle of friendship with the friend (I hope that you see through your big yard and white picket fence/To make amends/And still be friends/Still be my friend). Or, the narrator finally gets the courage to drop the friend (I hope that you see through your big yard and white picket fence). And the friend realizes they should've treated them better (Make amends/Still be my friend).

Just my interpretation :)
