| Steve Forbert – If I Want You Now Lyrics | 5 years ago |

What a beautiful, mysterious song. Such a tender song.. Such a universal feeling, to want someone we can't have. But that is why he is wanting her? If he " had" her, he would not want her?. I don't get it. But it seems to be about a life partner: "Who's built his world/ Around your green eyed laugh lines" Ah, I see, it's about a past love...and he is asking who is the person now, who is having a similar love towards her he once had... |

I never understood the "they" referring to 2 lovers; to me ,it always seemed like a group that was referred to, perhaps another family? But of course the commentary by jimmypolecat ad others that it is about lovers makes sense and hits a chord. What a wonderful song. Like Dylan's best, not easily translated into a single meaning. "They" were always admired by the writer...they were too advanced for this world, yet too sensitive and suffered from its hardships " Not enough tough for this tough town" " Prey to the dust and the rust and the ruin"....even they couldn't avoid the materiality of this world. Eventually they "take the sky, forsake the ground"....the golden ones.." sail on to another land beneath another sky" While others were playing childish games they were circling the sun... |

| Simon and Garfunkel – A Most Peculiar Man Lyrics | 10 years ago |

@[ILUVU:3253] We don't know that this guy was a genius had insight into others...probably not as he was so withdrawn/depressed. Yes it's fascinating...how did he get this way? A tragedy, really. Like he did on many songs of that period, Simon is making a social commentary on a society that produces unhappy ,alienated people like this. I listened to this song too often in high school 40 years ago. As Bob Dylan wrote," I was so much older then/I'm younger than that now". Would have been better for me to have been playing ball with Biff and Jack or pursuing Susie. |

@[Ernest:3251] And now it's come to Paul and his wife pounding on each other and having to go to court in CT over it. Ahhh, youth! |

Paul Simon is reflecting his alienation, and cynicism towards the human race at that point in his life by ending the song with "Oh my grace/I've got no hiding place". Where can you hide when a croud cheers for a mother's son to jump, in an atmosphere of "freaky holiday"? The song is not about drugs, that is just mentioned by someone in the audience, as if to sarcastically say, "why else would he possibly do it"? Simon was very young when he wrote this song. Another one in a similar vein is "A Most Peculiar Man". He's commenting on a society that produces such alienation that allows people and situations such as portrayed in these songs to exist. |

| Bob Dylan – Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It is an incredible song...Jon Anderson does it beautifully on Steve Howe's album "Portraits of Bob Dylan"....l can listen to this over and over and always hear something new....as with most of Bob's songs...to me this and "Jokerman" are the best of the best. | |
