I always thought the song could have two meanings. One being that he was in a relationship with this girl, but it was bringing him down. The relationship between them was rotten, and no good for both of them. He was trying to get over her, yet trying to save this girl who had been broken beyond repair.
The second meaning could be about an addiction. Getting over one, whether it be. A giant metaphor for all of the addictions and how its ruins one's life. |

In my opinion, the song is about how some things in life never change and how there's nothing you can do about it. I think that it's also about how things can't change, so what's the point of trying and not letting it flow?
