The Residents – Moisture Lyrics 12 years ago
I'd like to think the moisture came from the snail, like she was rubbing it around her body like a weirdo and it released a toxin that killed her.

M.I.A. – Paper Planes Lyrics 12 years ago
It's strange. I had a dream last night where I was playing it with a band and it sounded much different. I hadn't thought of the song in a long time. But then I couldn't get it out of my head. I don't see this as a "gangster song" cus it's not quite as stupid as one. I mean, yeah the chorus is basically saying "I just want to kill you and take your money", but it sounds like children singing it, which is disturbing.

I wonder how it could be about Brian Ferry?

Brian Eno – Bone Bomb Lyrics 13 years ago
Wow, that's pretty gross. This song is very foreboding and scary to me. On the one hand, I see it being about anorexia. When she says, "young girls dreaming of beautiful deaths, popstar pictures above their beds", it reminds me of how media portrayals of women are so heavily influential on young girls' health. And you get the image of this woman as being as thin as can be, so much so that she's on the brink of death. Then the song ties this in with war and neglect of peoples' lives, which is largely what the album is about. It's interesting, like he's saying that we've, as a society, put so much stock into these attractive, perfect ideals of how to live that we've drained ourselves completely and left ourselves no room for our actual well being. Now we live in war and decay, an anorexic society.

I like the whole coke idea. By the way, who else thought this was the music from Breaking Bad when they first heard it?

The Residents – Hello Skinny Lyrics 13 years ago
You've got a keen eye for these lyrics. I was thinking along the lines of the second interpretation. But for me, the song more focuses on his total lack of moral framework, his "skinniness". Being so passive, whatever he sells is all the same to him and so he sees no problem in selling another person ("a wife") or a knife, which the song makes sound kind of evil, or a record worth a lot of money. I don't know if you've seen the video, but you see him marching with Hitler, cleaning up passively after some gruesome murder, and at one point the actor's face is replaced with a picture of Ed Gein, a serial killer from the 50s.

I think this song is about a man with no real will. His skinniness is a metaphor for his passivity and, really, complete lack of moral framework. If you watch the video, this comes through a lot. In the video, you see him passively cleaning the scene of some horrible murder, you see him marching with Hitler, and in one part his face is replaced with Ed Gein's, the serial killer that inspired Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs (If you've seen the video, look up the picture on Ed Gein's Wikipedia page to see what I mean). Skinny sells because that is all he can do. And whether he's selling a simple suction cup, a knife (which the song makes sound sinister), or even another person ("a wife"), it's all the same to him.
