It doesn't really match to the music video, but it seems to me that the song is about young people suffering aids. "Where there is desire there is gonna be a flame" represents the sex which follows love, someone getting burnt represents the illness. "But just because it burns/Doesn't mean you're gonna die/You've gotta get up and try try try" encourages people not to lose hope and not to give up. |

Maybe the song is about Marilyn's affair with Kennedy. He was ashamed of her, denied their relationship, her bad, slutty side which would people think of if they understand about their affair. So she decided "if you can't handle my worst (bad things people would think about them) you ain't gettin' my best (her love)". |
