I believe you guys who know more about the band and the story line of his book probably have a better idea than me. It comes across to me as though the lyricist isn't actually writing lyrics with certain metaphors in it. He is trying to convey a dark emotion by using imagery and extremely disturbing word-choice. tis lovely... reminds me of ring around the rosey, pocket full of posey.... |

What it sounds like is this song is based off of a movie. The mood and feeling given by the lyrics would fit perfectly with some horror movie like this and I heard that the band sometimes will play movies on mute and then try to create music that captures the mood of the movie. The plot is that on a spaceship in outer space something goes awry and in whatever movie the guy was watching some sort of disease is bred. (Species growing Bubbles in an IV loitering Unknown origin) The lyrics "Yes this is the campaign... in the cargo bay. a neutered is the vastness." is talking about the space station. later it says, "Self-destruct sequence This station is non-operational" which all has to do with the space ship. The mentioning about oxygen tanks and the hallow vacuum seem to confirm all this the disease is mentioned in "slithered entrails," "tease this amputation, splintered larynx." He is basically going into gory depth about people dying. Sputnik is the russian satelite that was the first into space I believe. Jagged pulp sliced in my veins - the narator becomes infected The last verse seems to be talking about the narrators final transmission home and the effects of the disease "Send transmission from the one armed scissor" "Cause I'm a million miles away... will you get this letter?" I write to remember - the narrator is having memory loss? I'm guessing that one armed scissor is the piece of metal used when people are transmitting morse code. The little thing that goes click click. OR it is the vessel that the narrator is on. Cut away could be talking about the same thing as when he says "Tease this amputation, splintered larynx." He is talking about the effects of the disease on himself and what he does to keep it from spreading. |
