This is my absolute favorite BlindMelon song. probably one of my alltime favorite songs ever. Again, there is no code or hidden messages, its just him telling it like it is. this is about life, plain and simple. You do your best. Sometimes you feel a little down because everything isnt going quite the way you want it to. You're trying to achieve something great, and other people are trying to hold you back because they know they themselves will never be great. As you go through life you have to accept change and grow. After you have accepted the past is gone and youve changed it opens up a whole new land of opportunities. He's also saying that our lives here on earth are finite, and we cant hold on to it. So while you're here, you do what you have to do, you work, but you also have some time for play. You leave your impression on the world and then you move on. Simple and beautiful. Thank you Mr Hoon. You are still well remembered. |

Shannon isnt really much for hidden meanings or codes. Its pretty much saying why cant we be fair, why cant we be good to one another? take the glue make a glittered room. Make things enjoyable instead of causing trouble and hate. He lays down beside his dog at the one part because its companionship and home, and later on with god the same way. Its the earthbound journey then the journey of the spirit. If it turns out there is no god, then just let him remember the good times with his friends. Love and miss you Shannon, I hope you're where you wanted to be! |

| Tool – The Gaping Lotus Experience Lyrics

The lotus is a sacred symbol in the Hindu culture. Also in hindu culture the artwork gives birth to what we refer to as psychedelic. The name of the song and the lyrics are a reference to the misuse of drugs as a recreational activity as opposed to a spiritual TOOL. |

The songs on Opiate are all pretty straight forward. This song is about a man going out into nature, into the hot sun and meditating and or tripping. He's searching for his, and humanities roots, as the hunter and the fisherman, or early man. Accessing it through immersing himself into a dreamlike state, that leaves him feeling dizzy. |
