Ricardo Arjona – Desnuda Lyrics 2 months ago
He’s laying it all out for us here without dicing any words. The song’s title is “Naked/Nude” referencing the female form “Desnuda,” is a naked woman. In any event, he’s describing (what I believe to be) his lover's body to her as a complete marvel to behold. He goes on to exult her beauty by saying that if she were meant to cover herself up, she would have been born with clothes. I see this song as an ode to women’s bodies the world over. Considering how much women are targeted by advertiser’s and the media to meet an expectation of the perfect female body , this song tells women that they are wholly enough being in the skin they’re in. He’s lamenting on the way that women tear themselves down, and he’s only trying to build her back up by helping her realize that her flaws and her idiosyncrasies are what make her beautiful.

I love this song. It takes me back to 2000. A simpler time. Definitely a song I hope outlasts other songs just for the radical self-love it tries to impart on women. Gets me a little teary eyed :’)

Phoenix – Identical Lyrics 2 months ago
Surprised no one’s commented on this song.
Really rounds out the effervescence that was this album “Alpha Zulu.” This album popped up for me at a really weird crossroads of my life and this song just perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being misunderstood to the one person who you think should get you, but maybe they falter in someway.
I think this song is about noticing the humanity in our loved ones and realizing they can mess up because they are HUMAN, and if we delve into the intricacies that seem to divide or make us distinct, we actually come to realize we’re all the same deep down. Wanting acceptance, love, prosperity for our family and friends and overall just a bittersweet realization when maybe you’ve burned bridges that should have never been burned to begin with.
When I was going through this crossroad in my life I was in a manic phase (thankfully now controlled with meds) and had this overwhelming desire to change my name, and I was set on “Aaron Zoroastrian.” I know, I know what the actual fuck, right? A few days later I get this rec on my music app to listen to the new Phoenix album “Alpha Zulu,” and the album touched upon so many themes I was wrestling with at the time. I forget how I came to the realization that a “good name,” would include the first and last letter of the alphabet. What I found even eerier was that Phoenix also thought this (or at least I thought they must have thought this) with naming their album. Anyway, sorry for the tangent. Hope someone reads thisssss

Shakira – Vuelve Lyrics 13 years ago
The song describes how one feels after a breakup. You can feel helpless (as she describes Alexander the Great without his shield or sword), broken and incomplete (as she describes the Sphynx when it lost its nose), lonely (like Colombus after he was pretty much forgotten by the Spanish monarchy). All in all she wants her lover to come back to her, (that's what "vuelve" means, "return")

I find it interesting how she uses all these allusions to famous people. A very good song about breaking up. And it's so upbeat it's strangely addicting.

Shakira – Sale el Sol Lyrics 13 years ago
How can no one comment on this song!

It's full of hope and brightness. (Hence the name of the song)

This song got me through some pretty rough times. Essentially the song is saying that if you weather the storm, the sun ALWAYS comes out and the promise of better times is just inevitable.

Shakira – Que Me Quedes Tu Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is very very deep. Shakira is basically saying how everything in the world can go to shit, but the one thing she doesn't want to lose is her lover.
I find this song to be so romantic, yet with all the imagery of loss, death, and destruction it makes for such an interesting song. In a way I feel as though there is a definite contrast between the material and subject matter in this song. On one end you have a lovely song with a lovely melody, but the lyrics are just so dark. I love it!

Shakira – Las de la Intuicion Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's cute how she mentions that her and her lover knew each other before they even met. I guess it goes back to that notion that soul mates are one soul inhabiting two bodies. :)
