It is sad that I am the first one who posts a comment for such a great song. I think it's totally about existence, the awareness and clarity of " real life." Also, it may be interpreted as Magazine's welcome song for Real Life. |

Hello. It is my first post and I want to interpret Friction. In my opinion it is totally about a teenager who starts to discover sexuality. Firstly, in the first stanza; I knew it musta been some big set-up. ( he is surprised at the sexual feelings he has ) All the Action just would not let up. ( he knows that there is no way back to days without sexuality) It's just a little bit back from the main road Where the silence spreads and the men dig holes. ( he is a teenager and doesn't have a lot of years behind him and he compares his birth with death by using men dig holes/graves) I start to spin the tale You complain of my diction ( I am new at sex and you complain about my dick ) The chorus, in my opinion, tells the tension between him and a girl who's in a dilemma to be with him and the boy likes this tension. I am not sure about what second stanza means but I have some ideas; My eyes are like telescopes I see it all backwards: but who wants hope? ( who wants hope when you have sexuality and lust) If I ever catch that ventriloquist I'll squeeze his head right into my fist. ( ventriloquis may be a metaphor for an imaginary woman he desires sexually) SOMETHING comes tracking down, What's the prediction? Lastly I wanna interpet these lyrics; I'll betcha it's Friction... Stop this head motion...set the sails. You know all us boys gonna wind up in jail. ( jail is used to symbolize a world without women so a world without sex and jail may be death or being too old to have sex) I don't wanna grow up There's too much contradiction ( he is still surprised by the change in him and he doesn't want to change anymore. because being a human is full of contradictions) As I mentioned before, this is my first interpretation in SongMeanings and I am open to any criticisim. |
