| Peter Gabriel – Mercy Street Lyrics

Gabriel himself was abused as a kid by some school mates, which is, I’m sure, easier to live with than being abused by your own parents, but a tough situation anyway; he talked about it candidly in a 2006 TED talk. I guess he feels a strong identification with Sexton, so no wonder he wrote a song about her. |

Ms. Wolfe herself tells in a youtube interview that this song depicts a couple having a fatal car accdident (like in slo-mo), and how all petty things in their life toghether suddenly become unimportant in their final moments. (/watch?v=aXrSN95K9LQ , 4:14 mark) |

I have always suspected that this song hides a really dark threat. Take the line "Can make a good man turn bad", it looks like a subtle threat to me about changing his attitude, and Morrissey song's narrators are never to be lightly trusted; don't get fooled by his smooth voice, the man likes it dark (ei, and that's great!) There's at least another guy in songmeanings who thinks the same. I could be totally wrong of course, but this song hides more than it shows (if I know my Morrissey) Give it some thought. |

Oh my! You may be wrong, or even joking, but makes perfect sense to me now, specially the last verses: he'd be very happy and able to kill us humans looking him from outside his cage... Are you a poetry genius or have you heard it from another source? |

Any ideas about this song? Though I don't really get the meaning of it all, I find the lyrics very "well formed" and well fit with the music, and also evocative in a strange way |
