| The Tragically Hip – Bobcaygeon Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| If you ask me, this song's about the Red Riots in the 1940s. Downie (or his character) was working as a Riot cop in Toronto, obviously keeping order at some sort of rally. The rally was disrupted by communist supporters, e.g. "Their voices rang with that Aryan twang", and Downie had to break up the ensuing riot. The last verse refers to how, in the middle of the riot, he couldn't get his wife/girlfriend off of his mind and he values her more than his job - maybe even questioning his morals slightly. The line about the "constellations" revealing themselves "one star at a time" most likely referred to a band revealing themselves to be Jewish - "one star at a time". This would also make sense given the fact that the band in the video is "The Constellations" and they are interrupted by a communist supporter. | |
