| ...Also, besides the reference to an umbilical cord, I think the "link it to the world, link it to yourself" part refers to a grandiose, messianic feeling enhanced by a particular drug or chemical. Maybe it is the truth he is 'stretching like a birth squeeze.' My opinion is that since he refers to a birth squeeze in particular, Bellamy is talking about oxytocin, a hormone used as an inducing agent in parturition. It intensifies uterine contractions, and is also released during orgasm (see above). 'The love hormone' is also known to give a feeling of connectedness to others (a link), as well as a grandiose connectedness with a 'greater purpose.' Since it isn't taken for recreation, Bellamy must have found out that other, more conventionally used drugs can give a similar feeling of 'connectedness,' and guessed that they feel like love... My few cents, and why I think this is such an amazing song! | |

My favorite Muse song! My favorite part is the chorus. My theory about it is pretty far out, so bear with me. It's romantic, see. Bellamy and his girlfriend are in bed, and they have just conceived what will become their first child. In a burst of passion, Bellamy demands to know that his future child is as strong as the love between him and his girlfriend. If the child is healthy and strong, it shall become a 'New Born.' He does not want to lose his chance to 'come away' with his girlfriend, giving up a life free from burden, for an unfit child or an anemic love life. So Bellamy wants to test what will become the 'New Born,' urging his girlfriend 'destroy the spineless' to "show [him] it's real." The above might seem confusing to those of you still in the process of learning about the birds and the bees. So I'll leave some of this to the imagination. But Bellamy calls for his girlfriend to 'break the silence' (read: orgasm) in a powerful way. Now, for a medical side note, sex during pregnancy is actually safe for a healthily implanted child, so horny couples really have no reason to worry here. But this is why I like this song and think it's HOT (-: |

Great song. Just wanted to say that maybe "wasting his millions" doesn't have to do with money. "Corporate" can also mean 'having to do with a body.' So a 'corporate show' might not have to do with the spectacle of buildings demolishing the environment and old ways of life. I agree with the posters who think this song deals with guilt. Bellamy sings about his 'guilty conscience' and 'hiding behind a broken frame,' possibly a computer screen? But I think the reason for his guilt is addressed in the song title, "Sunburn." 'Sun' is a popular rock trope that is used in many ways, but it can refer to 1. that shining ball of hydrogen and helium that gives us light, 2. 'Son' as in 'The son of God,' or 3. as a metaphor for goodness/morality/religion/domination or whatever. Maybe this is a stretch, but I think when Bellamy says "Sunburn," he's talking about feeling guilty for ignoring the advice of 'The Sun' of goodness. Finally, Muse asks that 'the truth' be shared and 'lies' be opposed, even in the face of costs (she'll burn our horizon, make no mistake). In the end, Muse holds that sticking to 'the truth' outweighs the benefits of hiding behind any facade. |
