I think that this song is meant to be as undefinable as it is. Each time I listen to it, I interpret it in somewhat of a different way, and I think the song sort of is meant to make you think. To me, I think the song is about how a man is using a girl; this man has a girlfriend that he tells everyone about, but he asked this girl out, probably with bad intentions, and doesn't tell her what he really is. Maybe the last few lines were coming from the girl's point of view, maybe she's been used so much that she's just done with everything and gives up and is somewhat suicidal. I know that this is one of a ton of interpretations of this song, and all others are probably much different. But Modest Mouse (goodness, I love them) is one of those bands that, to me, makes music for themselves and just lets others interpret things the way they want. Everyone interprets songs different ways because everyone has different experiences. To some, the song may be about drugs, maybe because that's an experience they relate the song to. To some, it may be about something completely different. I interpreted the song this way, but everyone else probably interprets it 1,000 times different, and most likely, so did Modest Mouse. :) |
