This song is so bittersweet, and so full of compassion. I always thought it was about a hobo-ish, slightly senile (or crazy - thinks he's God) old alcoholic that seem to often inhabit old pubs, spending his pension money on booze, but happily, contentedly, because though he may be a bit off from all the booze he is wise enough to know the importance of kindness, sweetness, and to cherish time, to ponder. I absolutely adore The Whitlams and this is one if my favourite songs (nice one Bernie). The lyrics are poignant and I think everyone over 20 can relate to how adoring someone who breaks your heart can cause you to become hard and cold. A sad fact of life and love, to be sure. As to "and let's just leave it at one third each" - perhaps it's because there's 3 people in their relationship - him (our protagonist - Bernie?), her, and the other man she's "excited" about (that Bernie now "knows" about). So sad. I LOVE how the song ends - with Tim on the piano smashing it down. Utterly brilliant. |

Might sound far fetched but...I think it's a reference to the Illuminati. Columbia is a goddess of the Illuminati/Freemasons. They are satanic. Almost every single BIG musical act, ANYONE in the music industry that has made it BIG, has had to bow to the Hollywood Illuminati/Freemasons. If they refuse, they are 'sacrificed'. Whitney Houston. Tupac. John Lennon. There's a long list, I forget them all. Google it. Look at the evidence. There's lots and lots of it.... Oasis talks about the SIGNS. It's ALL about signs and symbols derived from the occult and satanism. Google Lady Gaga Illuminati, Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye West, etc. Check out the mason signs in their video clips, on album covers, in their lyrics, on their clothing etc. Anyhoo, i digress. It could be about the Illuminati trying to get to them, and they're not sure what to do about it. They're confused. It's all new to them. By the way. Noel has been seen giving Illuminati hand signs left right and centre lately. the pyramid sign and whatnot. *sigh* |
