The actual lyrics.... Girl I say if only life would lean our way Well you and me, we’d run away to be wherever our adventure waits And time would be a distant memory, nobody could tell us to stay Well I’ve been dreaming ever since I've seen you, heaven when you came my way I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love Oh it seems awfully hard for us to find at all And all these tears will wash away and we’ll be clean, though we’ll have nothing more Well I can say there’ll come another day where money and our time affords On our hands our wrinkles understand we never really wanted more. I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love And all the life about to go is in my mind Cause all the loudest voices in the world are never right. I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love I heard your heart saying love love love Woooaaaaaah love love love Woooaaaaaah love love love Woooaaaaaah love love love Woooaaaaaah love love love |

"Spinning round and round Hold tight And no don't you let go Until daylight Pours through your window" I interpret this song as someone who is in a relationship that has been going through a rough patch. "Hold tight, and no, don't let go", this lyric suggests that the carousel is actually a metaphor for getting the pair back on track. The fact that he talks of her not letting go of this carousel until 'daylight pours into her window' supports my view of the carousel not being real, as a carousel is obviously too big to fit into a room. Which is normal for songs... to have an object or an animal be symbolic of their love. A carousel is considered fun and lively, but safe; yet, he sounds like he's making out that it isn't. A child is someone that should 'hold on tight' not an adult, suggesting how their love is like childs play. He 'longs for the smell' of her hair, it's almost like a desperation; her hair is a metaphor for a comfort blanket of some sort, something that keeps him sane. "And all this time In a hiding place, in a hiding place All our lives, with a melody all our own" The chorus highlights his despair, he's blaming the trickiness on how their lives are a 'melody' all their own. This could either symbolise how he is talking of a joint life, their lives create this melody and that the chorus is the break from the verse that's his conscience telling him that by chasing her he's doing the right thing. Alternatively, the chorus could be proving the strain in their relationship as their 'melody' is a representation of how different they are at heart. Which goes back to the 'smell of her hair' as being something he can hold onto. Something so small and insignificant, but has a powerful hold over him. "Running dry The conversation slows Red lights And plans not set in stone" The struggle he is going through heightens as the two can't talk of anything substantial. Which should not be happening if it is love you feel, which is obvious that their feelings have subsided and have taken a toll. What I find unusual is that you don't really know what has gone wrong, he never sings of that. Just the present, which means that he is confused and lost about why she isn't happy anymore. "And plans not set in stone", furthers my point on their relationship being like a child's. Innocent and quick to move on, no real substance on her, or maybe his part, too. The return to the chorus and no third verse is the ultimatum of their lives. "Close our eyes, singing a melody all our own", he is savouring the last few moments of their time together before they part. All in all, the story behind this song is very relatable, as many people have experienced a relationship where there once was passion and you can't even remember when it all went wrong. The tune is fantastic and not all that melancholic, which is stereotypical of 'Morning Parade', but could also represent how the loss of this relationship actually hasn't strained him as a person and how he is moving on. I wish more people knew of this song, it's such a good one! |
