Dawes – When My Time Comes Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't know if I just want to think this as a happy song rather than a sad one, but does "when my time comes " have to refer to death? Could it maybe mean that throughout the song he is talking about how much he doesn't like his life and he is hoping that he will soon get out of it and in a way conquer all the bad things and turn it around? "When my time comes" to me is kind of the day will come when I will break free of this life and start a different one.

The Head and the Heart – Down in the Valley Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about going out into the world and trying new things and realizing that you don't always have to go somewhere in order to be happy. He finds himself returning to the same places he has always been. He talks about the places he has never been but then says how he stays in the valley, which could be a sign of comfort. He is on his way back to where he started, meaning he was more happy where he used to be. Wishing he was a slave to an age old trade kind of hints at stability and the promise of something always being there for him.

That my somewhat happier interpretation. The sad one is that he is trying to get away and start a new life but ends up in the same old places he has always been. In the valley as in a low point in his life and whiskey rivers of course refers to drinking. No matter how much he tries to get a new life he cant.

Either way it is a beautiful song

Bon Iver – Skinny Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I see the word skinny in this case as perhaps a love that's missing something? They are both desperately trying to work it out and change for each other but it never really works out.

The Head and the Heart – Lost In My Mind Lyrics 13 years ago
I see it as we need to be ready to put everything behind us and do what makes us happy. saying "hows that brick laying coming? Hows your engine running?..." etc, he's asking you to be honest and say whether or not you are satisfied with the kind of conventional life you may be living, because if you aren't then we can move past this part in our lives. "We can start moving forward."
