| In my opinion, this song references public ignorance of any form - any event when the public has refused to open their eyes rather than information being hid from them. An example would be how nothing is really being done to stop global warming. While economic fuels are being implemented, it is not as drastic as it should be and oil is still being mined - at this moment, there is probably still a dangerous amount of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere. More to the point, its about the pessimism, the attitude that a group of dedicated people can't change the world. If someone pledges to make a difference in this day and age, they are met with scoffs and "you'll never do it". But who says? Such pessimism and apathy is exactly why our world is fucked up, because no-one has the balls to step up to the plate and do anything so we all just stoically accept whatever fate we have and fail to make any sort of change. | |

I interpret this to be about casualties in war, talking to people who make the decisions - "Gravedigger, there's blood on your hands" - This seems to me a direct attack, saying that people who make the decision to go to war may as well dig the graves themselves as they are responsible for all the death so the blood is on their hands. "An iron fist in a velvet glove" - again, big decisions are being made (iron fist) in the same way and strategy as less shocking decisions (the "velvet glove") "Death still flies east". This backs it up as most wars happening currently involve british troops flying east, i,e. Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, etc. "We bomb for peace" - how ironic. |

This song is about people that try to convert other people's religions and the singer is angry about it. "Sister, I'm not much a poet, but a criminal And you never had a chance Love it, or leave it, you can't understand A pretty face, but you do so carry on, and on, and on" is saying sort of "Im not perfect, and believing in your religion won't make me perfect either because I believe in my own religion, you wouldn't understand though you're just a pretty face notihng more" I wouldn't front the scene if you paid me I'm just the way that the doctor made me, on, and on, and on, and on is saying "Nothing will make me convert to your religion either," The verses sort of say a similar thing from there on. The chorus, "So give me all you poison And give me all your pills And give me all your hopeless hearts And make me ill You're running after something That you'll never kill If this is what you want Then fire at will" means "Give me all of your preaching shit if you really want to, but it ain't gonna work" good song though my favourite on the album!!! :) |

A good concept album means that each song can be taken and mean something else completely different as well as fitting in with the concept album. This is what 21st century breakdown does. Personally, I think it's just about a teenage "runaway" where the girl who ran away wasn't so innocent as the news makes runaways out to be. |
