Silverstein – American Dream Lyrics 11 years ago
I posted my interpretation 2 years ago but over time it changed. I feel this is directly talking about the Great Gatsby and it is describing the different characters situations that over lap.

Silverstein – Giving Up Lyrics 13 years ago
I feel that this song is about a guy in a relationship with a girl but he does drugs or has an emitional disorder like depression. He talks about how things were amazing, they made eachother happy, then came deppression and drugs and he forgot his happiness and she was giving up on him because this new life style is to hard for her and she's getting to hurt.

But they talk about it as if it were to talk about drugs, so maybe it is about both a women and a drug.

I absolutely love this song and I believe it is about cheating, but he's not in the relationship. When it says, "It was on a wedding day," it isn't stated that it's "his" wedding day, but "a" wedding day. He then goes on saying, "That my life began to stray, never thought I made such a big mistake, throw my life away," means that he really didn't want this wedding to take place, as if it were someone he really cared about marrying someone else.

"I've gone days without food, I've went weeks without sleep, keeping this in, I've got cuts I can't close, I've got wounds that won't heal, It's all your fault," He's been really stressing about this and feels that he needs here more than anything, food, sleep, etc. He is also hurt that things couldn't turn out the way he wanted, to be with her and will always have these feelings. "I've been shattered and wrecked, my hands covered blood, scars on my skin," could mean that he's no longer pure for having romantic relations with someone already committed in a relationship. "Now I'm weak with deceit, my skin is paper thin," means that he feels shame this relation and that he is being hurt that he doesn't have her unconditionally to himself.

"We get through this, feeling it, keeping it, holding it in. We go through this, over and over again,” means that they cheat and begin to have feelings for each other but hide it and move on with life more than just a few times, but very many. “I’d go years without tears, in a life with no fears, a life without you. Now I’m breaking my back to cover my tracks,” Had he never met this women his life would go on care free but now every time she decides to use him for pleasure he has to hide all feelings, all evidence that they were ever together and move on.
“He won’t leave her for this, what’s the point?” He is telling that her husband won’t leave her even if he found out that she had cheated on him because he knows he loves her, so what’s the point of breaking them up? And the part that he sings “I wish they would die,” is more like him wishing for them to get out of his head and life so he could go on with his life.
Lastly, the “This was not a test; this was all for real,” was just him saying his feeling were real, and this wasn’t just a game or test that he failed.
