No song makes me as happy as this one. Seriously, Brandon only creates gold, he puts so much meaning and passion into all of his songs.

The Killers – Human Lyrics 13 years ago
Well personally the way I view the song is from a religious standpoint, since Brandon Flowers is extremely religious and incorporates his beliefs into most of his songs.
I always felt that to be "human" was implying living a typical life, doing things that humans consume their lives with that sometimes is insignificant, and not truly cared for by God, since humans make daily mistakes against Him and are born with sin. And then there's a "dancer", who is sometimes uncommon among most people, who stands-out and dance for others(possibly implying to live for God).

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes
Clear your heart...
Cut the cord

I always felt that he was describing that he was conscious of when his time to leave the earth would come(and that if he would be welcomed into heaven), and when it does, maybe he did not want death and the pain, but he had to accept it. He's nervous because of the possibility that he may or may not have lived the life that would allow him into heaven, and before he dies he clears his heart, meaning those minor seconds before his death he'll pray to God for forgiveness of his sins.

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Sometimes i think that by his sign meaning his soul and the life that hes lead, is vital to determine what his afterlife will be . He's searching through himself and praying to God is he is worthy.

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well..
You've gotta let me go

Pretty much here I feel like hes leaving this world, saying goodbye to what formed the person he became, and he's thankful for the affect that they've had on his life since it is what decides where he will go.

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know is your heart still beating

I'm not sure what to necessarily think about this portion, but I believe that it may be about the "dream" of possibly going to heaven, not knowing exactly when it will occur, and the nervousness again of what the outcome will be.

And in the end, he still questions this fact.
It seems to everyone it has a different meaning, which brings the beauty of the song, seeing everyone's perspective and imagination run wild, as Brandon said in an interview once that the song can mean what anyone wants, none of us will truly know what was exactly going through Brandon's mind while writing this song.
