thewho1011, it's interesting that you say they have deep meanings that reach across a variety of listeners. The message of Christ is one that everyone is searching for in their life. We all want that special someone that we can fall on in our times of trouble and who will love us forever and "take us back" when we mess up or run away from them. Also you don't have to be defined as a "christian band" to be praising God in your music. |

Refers simultaneously to acid, as well as his future wife Linda (when you've made your mind up forever to be mine). When they met he went crazy over her but she had just been dumped by Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones and wasn't ready for a relationship, she moved to America for modeling and Donovan wrote almost the entire Sunshine Superman album for her. |

In his autobiography Donovan writes that "saffron" refers to when he lived in St. Ives for a summer and had no money, he and his best friend Gypsy Dave would go to the bakery in the morning and ask for day old saffron cakes. I don't know where 14 comes from but he references it in "Superlungs" as well while referring to a girl who gets high. It may be a throw back to a lover in St. Ives again when he first started playing music and was smoking a lot of pot (he was only 15 or 16 at the time). |

I agree with the seagull building the nest from the hair being a "everything is connected" mentality. I interpret the rest of the song as a giant metaphor, the Ferris wheel being representative of life and how we have to follow through our dreams no matter what. In the beginning she is going through life and pursuing her dreams but her hair gets caught (something comes in her path that stops her), but he says even though it seems lost, you will recover from this fall and with "Samson's strength" you can pick yourself up and keep going. |
