Collecting dust on the shelf, a fantastic track to close out the debut from Hershey's finest. The guitar shimmers beautifully and Lau's keyboard lays a brilliant groundwork to usher out the album as the bass and drums roll by like waves. The lyrics speak for itself; aware. |

Nothing much to add on top of all of the excellent takes shared by others. I will say that the live version from This Movie is Broken is the best rendition that I have heard as the song is being sung some 8 years after it was written and the last time with the entire collective on stage together. It ends with Emily in near tears saying "I miss my friends" while looking at Leslie and then Amy. |

I've always thought this song captured Emily and Leslie's struggle with being part time members of the band. With their successful careers outside of the collective having taken off by the time the song was written, it is a mature message of love and gratitude being expressed by the ladies to the rest of the band. All that said, it is a ridiculously tender tune. |

| Spot on Duke. Couldn't have surmised better myself for this absolute gem of a tune. Cheers. | |

The band commented at length about how their personal lives changed dramatically in the years leading up to and during the recording of MPP. I'm not sure there's a better introductory song from a lyrical and musical perspective for the album than this track. My guess has always been that the song (like much of the album) talks in detail about Lennox (Panda Bear) personal life. The first stanza speaks to his falling in love with wife Fernandia, and the second stanza which starts with "Got a Dancer" refers to their daughter Nadja and her early love of music. Lennox was away from his family for much of the writing/recording of MPP and his frustrations are evident as he eventually asks his daughter (despite her carefree nature as a child/toddler) for her forgiveness. Nothing resonates with me more than "To Hold You In Time" line where Lennox finds some peace with his being away, he knows he'll soon be home to his little girl. The table is beautifully set for "My Girls" |

| Japandroids – The House That Heaven Built Lyrics | 13 years ago |

The beauty in language and art is that the beholder is empowered to take what is presented and to interpret the meaning based on meaning and experience. There's a nice catch late in the tune that guides my perception of the song down a slightly different path than the previous comments (which all have great perspectives to share): "Born of a bottle From heaven's hand And now you know And here I am" I hear a parent/child interaction taking place for the first time in the child's life, likely at a time where the child is able to emotionally grasp the notion of finding out who their real parent is. Thus, the parent is also feeling the overwhelming power of the newly formed bond in the closing stanza. The emotional delivery during the entire song is a wonderful way to tell this story. |

| Frank Sinatra – Time After Time Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Not sure why the Hyman and Lauper song is credited here, this masterpiece comes from Sammy Cahn and Julie Styne in 1947. As usual, Sinatra's delivery from It Happened In Brooklyn is ace. |

The proclamation. The statement. There they were in June of 1995 drawing a line in the sand on the opening track. Audacious. Cavalier. Domineering. Dangerous. |

| Sheesh, I should say the "This Is Music" single... which was such an exciting purchase way back when, hitting US soil weeks ahead of the anticipated LP. Ah, time, you have your way every now and then. | |

A gem of a tune. This song meant a whole lot to an innocent 19 year old guy who was head over heels for a gal that just wouldn't give him a sign that she was feeling the same way. Waiting with no reciprocation, he felt the weight of every word in this one during the days that elapsed until a wiser time found him. The "On Your Own" single now sits in a chest of compact discs that haven't been visited with regularity for nearly a decade. Oh, but to re-discover the warmth of this song and those wonderful feelings of the past as grown man, husband and father. Such are the delights of the arts in this life we live. Cheers to Richard, Nick, Simon, and Peter (and Owen's fantastic production). |
