| Said The Whale – False Creek Change Lyrics | 9 years ago |

This is about the neighbourhood of False Creek in Vancouver. It was developed during Expo 86, and then again during the 2010 Olympics when it became Olympic Village. It isn't just a song about the city growing, but about the city outgrowing its inhabitants. Vancouver has a reputation for being very expensive, and eating its artists. The area the song refers to in particular gentrified really fast and went from an affordable space to a trendy one. It's about that feeling of being pushed away from a city that you love dearly. |

| Dan Mangan – Rows of Houses Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I saw him play this a few times live and he said it was based on the movie Stand By Me, just like drice said. If you watch the music video its pretty obvious that its themes are the nostalgia for something small town, something better while the world is changing and homogenizing (especially around the characters from Stand By Me). He said before he played it live at the Orpheum that Its about the ennui and inescapabilty of the drudge and grind of everyday suburban life. | |

That's kind of presumptuous of you to think that girls aren't going to appreciate the song as well as guys. The great thing about music is that it allows people the ability to emote without action generally associated with catharsis. And believe me, especially in adolescence, women are just as angry as men. The pains of growing up and being angry at the world are not unique to one gender or the other. If anything I think women would identify with this type of music more because its not socially acceptable for women to be angry or aggressive and music is a good outlet for these emotions. This song isn't about being a boy- its about being a kid. I think in particular its about being a kid in today's world which is looking to violence more and more as a way to deal with frustrations and the sense of non-control that is such a large part of being a teen. I think Musicx hit the nail on the head. |
