Yeah, I think people are over-analyzing this a tad. The "marble" refers to headstones in the cemetery. And "we should let this dead guy sleep" more or less means let's not bang on top of his grave. |

"Just a couple states below" The singer's from Seattle and moved down to LA/Laurel Canyon. Quite literal there. Just like in his interviews he's basically saying compared to the Northwest and his depression that came from living there, it's like a land of milk and honey in comparison. "The devil" could be in reference to "sin" of being selfish. He left his old band, Fleet Foxes (heard of em?) and fled to California. |
