At the surface. it is obviously a song about the voice's/Apples negative male relationship experience. Except that the first one mentioned probably doesn't refer to a real relationship, beyond the deep impact of it. I'd concede that it is unlikely to be about Apples relationship to Blaine, when there is a much more likely candidate to consider. More to the point, though, I'd say that this song is about the deepseated, charged fury of a person obsessing with negative relationships and trying to finally turn the obsessive charge on its head towards a partner more sensitive to her needs, so as to reengage in a positive relation w the world/a special someone, by trying harder, through the energetic charge. (someone expressed delight in the 'venomous' tone of the lyrics. I'd name the tone 'reptilian' - thinking of the special, primitive grammar,in conjunction w the growling tone of the lyrical content) Great rythmic and vocalic flow. Best wishes on her |
