As someone who has currently lived 25 years of life without relying on prescription drugs. This song resonates with me a great deal. I recently saw a statistic saying that over 50% of the population of the United States is on one or more daily prescription drugs. Some people are on more than one. Than means over half of us are kept in line with synthetic substances. Recently, I have been having problems with myself. I brought this up to my parents over Thanksgiving. So they want me to see a counselor and get medicated. This makes me question if there is something wrong with me or something wrong with society that our solution to every problem is medication. I have had my experiences with prescription drugs in the past, took some Adderall from time to time in order to stay awake and alert before a long day. That shit works, but I immediately noticed to potential for abuse. I've seen a kid snort Xanax and then steal armloads of stuff from stores (apparently it removes your ability to give a shit about anything but yourself). So, to me this song is a question to society. "Is it too late to go back" (before everyone was drugged up at a doctor's order). I think it is. Keep popping your pills kids, that'll make it better. Maybe they'll give me something good and I can dig myself out of this hole of a dead end job and low self confidence. I can't wait to join the masses of those who have given up on themselves. |
