Well my daughter came up with an interesting interpretation that it is about a father who had to leave while his child was very young and now cant see their child. "I only knew you for awhile I never saw your smile" As with babies dont smile for a few months. It strikes a chord with me being that it reflects what happened with my daughter until she decided she wanted to live with me after being reunited after 6 years of not seeing me. The expressions in the song are very much like the love you have for your children and the pain involved in seperation. |

I always thought this was a sexual song about having sex with one person and thinking of somebody else who you can never have. It could also fit masturbation as some others have suggested. The chorus lyrics and the bit about thinking about someone for whom he still yearns always made me think this. |
