It's strange how this song sounds like it could have been a Strokes song. It sounds like no other songs on the album - it's a Strokes song.
Having said that, I love it. The whole album is really great! |

I guess I'll be the first of many to say they first heard the song in "The Five Year Engagement". The song set such a fantastic mood at both ends of the movie. Just fantastic. The lyrics are so beautiful too. They read like a true love poem. It make me want to write a love song, even though I currently don't really have anyone to write it about.
When the bass comes in at the begin, it absolutely sets the tone of the song... and the triangle... then the drums and the orchestra... Damn... so beautiful. |

It's about some of the values of HInduism. This is that in sanskrit is "Tat tvam asi" which is from the Upanishads (an important text of vedic hinduism). See the Wikipedia page below for more info on it.
Jai guru dev (think That Beatles' Across the Universe) is something like "Praise the Divine guru". In the early 70s, when this album came out, Hinduism was all the rage thanks to the Beatles, and this is The Beach Boys' subtly jumping on the bandwagon.
