| I think its about two alcoholics and one has fallen off the wagon and the other can see their 'best mate plans' going down the drain, he feels he can't stay sober himself, without the support of his buddy, he needs direction. He's also scared his mate will end up dead from drink. there are enough references to drink after all.... | |

I think its about being in a dysfunctional relationship, many people get used to domestic violence, it become a common thread in each relationship. A friend who had many violent partners once told me 'if he doesn't hit me it feels like he doesn't care' her words not mine. Just feels like thats what the song is about |

| Placebo – Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush cover) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I always thought this song was about a couple in a bad relationship, if we could swap places and see how much we hurt each other(unaware i'm tearing you asunder). Still passion between them (there's a thunder in our hearts)but it's become hate as opposed to love. and running up that hill? overcoming the fear and seperating | |

My son says this song describes being Autistic. Here's what he told me: 1st verse - he cannot understand why people do what they do, he feels detached, unable to empathise and bewildered by their emotions. if you hate your job, why do you do it? He is very pragmatic. Chorus - the world is a huge space populated by things he can't understand and he only feels safe when he can retreat within himself. He says he often thinks of just leaving, the peace and quiet of death is appealing to him. He also finds it very hard to explain how he feels about the world he's in (he was so delighted when he heard this song, he felt some one out there understood) 2nd verse - He knows he should enjoy being the centre of attention, and parties etc. but he finds it very uncomfortable. In school he felt like the teacher treated the whole class as one, no identity, no individuals, and made no attempt to understand him. He also required very clear instructions, something the teacher never realised. Vague descriptions, sarcasm and metaphors ('pull your socks up' 'watch yourself' etc just left him bemused) He felt the teacher never even saw him. Just his opinion :) we both love this song. |
