| MGMT – Kids Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This song in itself doesn't make sense. Every comment I read just takes a sentence or two out of context because it means something to them and then uses the rest of the song to support their idea rather than listening to the song as a whole and understanding a concrete message. The song obviously doesn't have a concrete message, the lyrics are all over the place jumping from one idea to the next. It's disorganised. But that's the point of the song. It's not about intellectualising and trying to understand some message about society. It's about acting on impulse and being a kid. They aren't trying to convey a message through their lyrics; rather they use it as a catalyst to convey an emotion. The song just shoots a bunch of images into your head to give you this nostalgic-melancholic feeling. It reminds you of how it felt to be a true kid and then reminds you that you're no longer a kid. This song is great because it's the epitome of pop music. Pop songs usually just use lyrics to make the song catchy while relying on the beat to appeal to the most amount of people possible. This song does just that yet it also uses the lyrics to convey the same emotion that the beat conveys without a central message. It really gets you lost into the song. |
