| Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
According to Cobain, "Lithium" was probably inspired by the time he spent living with the family of his friend Jesse Reed, during the summer of 1985. the Reed's lived a full, born-again christian lifestyle, and the details of religious observance in the song are likely born from that experience. this song has a genuine beauty to it. on one hand a melody that was neatly forged from a bare minimum of notes and on the other the lyrics that poetically negotiates the thin line between madness and the search for faith. all in all, a true masterpiece. |

| if the dude is referring to the MTV unplugged show than yes he is right. kurt does say "all alone is all we are" but he sings that phrase only at that show. the recorded phrase on "in utero" is "all in all is all we are" | |

This song has nothing to do with another human being. Nothing to do with a “friend” or an “enemy” and nothing to do with Courtney love. This is a song about heroin or more specifically the high of heroin, the trip. Come as you are, as you were As I want you to be As a friend, as a friend As an old enemy Every time you shot up it’s a little different than all the other time. He wants this trip to come as is, as good as it once was or as good as he wants it to be Meaning as a friend. He also knows it might be a bad trip – an old enemy. Take your time, hurry up The choice is yours, don't be late Take a rest as a friend As an old Memoria, memoria Memoria, memoria Its never fun when it hits you with a “bang” like a punch in the face but he doesn't want it to take To long either. As if he is saying ‘surprise me but get here’ and he definitely hopes it will feel like the Very first time like that old memory. doused in mud – that’s a direct reference to heroin. Mud is a nickname to heroin especially in the north west in the 90’ soaked in bleach – another heroin reference. That’s how you clean your needles. And I swear that I don't have a gun – heroin use and addiction will get so high that you will be talking to god eye to eye but it will also take you lower than you ever thought possible, it will make you hate yourself, be angry and disappointed at yourself and it will make you wanna die. He makes a promise to the “trip” that he will not harm himself and more than that he is trying to promise to himself and convince himself the same thing Therefore the repetition of that phrase. |

wrong! you are way off. Kurt wrote this song in 1992 around the same time he wrote "heart shaped box". he was already married to Courtney during that time and his marriage wasn't doing all that great, in fact it threatened the very existence of the band. aside from being a song about guilt, self loathing and the feeling of worthlessness this song has everything to do with Courtney and that's why Kurt dedicated this song to his wife and new born baby at the 1992 Reading festival (which was by far one of the best shows Nirvana ever preformed). you where right about one thing thus, and i quote "...Now that I've said that, I have to say I don't really know what the song is about...." |

the phrase "all in all is all we all are" is the original phrase and that's the one that is on the "in utero" album. the phrase you are referring to "all alone is all we all are" he used only one time and was at the MTV unplugged show. |

| Tool – The Pot Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This song is about the kangaroo court which was a bullshit court and it’s about the judge who is the one calling the kettle black 'cause he's sending pot smokers (meaning small time offenders) to years in prison while he himself is a heroin user. "Eye hole deep in muddy waters" describes a junkie holding up the spoon he just cocked his heroin on to see if it’s right and ready to shot up. its about corruption and injustice and how those in a position of power get away with crimes while a small time/first time offender is made an example off and is sent to prison for years. |

at age 16 in my bedroom with a hand gun to my head had just about enough of this fucking life nirvana is playing in the background and just when i'm about to pull the trigger i hear "... if you ever need anything please don't hesitate to ask someone else first i'm too busy acting like i'm not naive I've seen it all i was here first ..." what it meant to me at that moment i'm gonna keep to myself (and its noway near to what some of you are posting here) but it did save my life i'm 34 now and have no plans to check out early. thank you Kurt for being there at the right time, i wish i could have been there for you man. any who, my point is, stop arguing about the meaning of songs and lyrics. get it the way you want to get it because none of you really knows true meaning of it and the only one who really knows what it means is no longer available for comments. |
