| I can agree with your interpretation, if you go with it that way I'm not sure how he could return virginity, but I guess apologizing for his actions could be what he meant. The girl(s)are the siren, and he saw them and was attracted, and slpet with them, or was just attracted to them. Being at innisfree would be to be in a place where he was happy. The dress I agree could be purity, there was one girl he either didn't sleep with, or only one he was in love with, but she didn't know, or didn't want him also. I truly enjoyed reading your interpretation of this amazing song, I was almost expecting to disagree with something that I thought about the song, or add something that I think you missed, but instead I believe you hit the meaning right on the dot. Oh, man what I used to be, Oh man, oh my, oh me Perfect explanation, there is so much soul, passion, and meaning behind those simple lines. The dowry Excellent bringing those verses together Montezuma That part always confused me, but bringing up the Marine's Hymn it pulls it all together. I am very impressed at how it was able to be pieced together. |

I think that as the character in the song grew up he was tought to believe that every person was unique, no one was the same. But, he wanted to do something to promote the betterment of all people. He doesn't want to be someone who takes advantage of people because of being in the military, but on the other side he wasn't going to be the kind of person that people walked over also. He sees so many things while in the military, but he doesn't know how to explain it so he keeps it to himself. It doesn't help anyone to complain and whine. While he goes to war he knows his girl will stay with him and keep herself to him and him only. This last part confused me for a little bit, but I believe his dream is to have a an orchard. And work heartily till he's sore and raw, but all the time being with the woman he loves and wishing it could be a happy ending like in all the movies, i.e. the man on the screen. |
