I think you nailed it actually... interesting as fuck! The song will always be about overcoming adversity in my world... but looking at it from that perspective it completely makes sense as a lecture to a disillusioned young soldier. Regardless, your interpretation is brilliant. Kudos! |

| This "correction" was pretty incorrect. I used the power of google to find the correct lyrics. They should be fixed for this page now. | |
| Bad Astronaut – Best Western Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| When I say "this song IS about...", what I really mean is "this is what the song means to me personally"... I long ago gave up on deciphering what caper's lyrics originally were intended to mean. My own take on the lyrics is a lot more important to me, and I'm selfish and lazy... | |
| Lagwagon – Everything Turns Grey Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think this song is about entropy. How no matter what we do, no matter how fiercely we fight it, everything falls apart given enough time. Everything - even the very molecules, atoms, quarks, and gluons that make up our universe - will eventually decay and break apart into a sea of grey. (i'm aware this is an agent orange cover, but felt like adding this here since i'm more of a lagwagon fan) |

| Bad Astronaut – San Francisco Serenade Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
don't know what i was on when i came up with this interpretation, but this is pretty out there... this song is more likely about friends that have been lost and the memories of dealing with their fall.... but i don't really know. the lyrics in general are about losing somebody you love, and the imagery can mean different things to different people. that's what i love most about caper's song writing - it's so personal yet so universal and there's always an underlying theme of empathy and integrity. amazing song |

| NOFX – Codependence Day Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I never thought much about the lyrics to this song because I assumed it was just a straightforward "life as an addict" song... but I like your interpretation that it's about American society enabling its own self destructive traditions. The song also works well for a romantic relationship between two drug abusers in denial. That interpretation is even more metaphorical and likely is not the intended meaning... but that's what the song will always mean to me. It's very easy to enable the ones you care about most to slip away for fear of driving them away.... |

| Lagwagon – Give It Back Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is about losing your patience with a negative/violent person and calling them out for their bullshit. It's a "fuck you, i'm out" to a person you tried to help... since all you got in return was resent you'll return the favor, because you don't need this shit. | |
| Lagwagon – Errands Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is about a stimulant abuser that burns every bridge in their home town and in a fit of desperation and confusion up and splits for NYC... The song could be the inner dialogue of a lone tweaker as he is driving from one place to the other, or a couple of tweakers having an actual conversation... Not that the two are any different to a tweaker. | |
| Bad Astronaut – San Francisco Serenade Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song seems to be written from the perspective of and about somebody fleeing the twin towers on 9/11, and observing the aftermath from a somewhat detached and dreamy perspective. | |
| Bad Astronaut – You Deserve This Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is about feeling like a disappointment. At the same time resenting the people you feel you've disappointed, and probably rightfully so... but it doesn't stop the guilt, and probably rightfully so. | |
| Bad Astronaut – Off the Wagon Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| This song is about begging an addict to go to rehab, and in general about struggling to push an addict loved one in a positive direction. | |
| Bad Astronaut – The Passenger Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
That's how I've always interpreted the song, although I suspect it really is about 9/11 from a passenger's perspective. Joey's songs mean to me whatever I need them to mean - and since I'm very selfish I usually make the song about my own life. To me this song is a letter from my conscience begging my impulsive side to stop with the self destruction. |

| Bad Astronaut – Go Humans Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Great song. I feel like Joey and I are both idealistic in the same way - and sadly that means we see the same tragedy that is humanity. This song is about losing hope for humanity and becoming a sarcastic cheerleader as we watch the train-wreck. | |
| Armchair Martian – Crestfallen Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
This seems to be about an insecure person that finally felt his life going the right direction then he finds the person he cares most about after they commit suicide. (finding you is the wost thing that i've seen, like me in the best shape i been) He is now crestfallen and contemplates what to do with himself - he considers joining them, but instead decides to bury his pain and deal with it later... a sort of selfish and cowardly way to handle things, but it was "good enough for you". He's sorry... because they were in so much pain, because he couldn't help, because he's so insecure, because he's a coward... I kinda doubt that was actually what this song was written about.... I think the lyrics fit well with my interpretation though, and that's what the song means to me... sorta |

| Bad Astronaut – Best Western Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
This song is about the death of a sheltered kid that left home and got swept up in life. You can hear the euphoria of the kid leading up to his demise in a cheap hotel room... "hey mom, hey dad... i'm rad"... Like he was writing his parents a letter to tell them how great his new life is, but suddenly he OD's and "every road leads to the church" (for his funeral)... Sad song, but thoughtful and passionate as always... I love it. |

| Bad Astronaut – One Giant Disappointment Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Like most of Joey's songs about Derrick, I can relate from every perspective. The friend (Joey), the addict (Derrick)... The mind of this addict has had the conversation in the song with itself many times. I find it comforting to have a voice in my head like Joey's in this song - empathetic, but brutally honest. Many times in my life I've wanted to give up and just stop trying, but songs like this remind me that I'm not alone. It's kept me alive. | |
| Bad Astronaut – Grey Suits Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I always thought this song was about redemption. The "gray suit" is a person that has never done anything outstanding, or at least failed to live up to their potential because of impulsive behaviors (drug abuse imo). This person feels let down by themself, and the world... They are broken, and everyone and noone is to blame. The song tells this person to press on, and something better will happen. If you're honest with yourself you can't justify your current path - recognize your flaws, realize you're worth saving, and press on... I also can see how this would be about the record industry, but this is what the song means to me. |

| Bad Astronaut – Break Your Frame Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I wouldn't call this a love song... More of a song telling somebody (yourself, your lover, your friend, your family member) that they must change or they'll never be happy. They do not listen, and instead self-destruct. There is an element of guilt, but also liberation... Inspirational song about self-reliance more than a love song imo... | |
| Bad Astronaut – Autocare Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I love this fucking song. The metaphor works so well with my drug (mis)use, combined with the fact that my job consists of me driving around in my beater of a car hoping it'll keep running another month without a new problem showing up... It touches on my guilt for wasting my life, my frustration with the issues that get in my way merely because I ignore problems. I do it with my car, I do it with my body... the two most important tools I have. Yeah... great lyrics, great song. | |
| Joey Cape – Errands Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
lol @ lagwagon182, it'll be okay bro i read your rant. :) so this song is "about tweakers" according to an interview with Joey Cape that i saw on youtubue. it's a story about a couple of meth users that burn every bridge in their current scene and up and move across the country to nyc (also from Caper in that interview). personally the song means something different and more personal. anyone that's had issues with stimulant abuse can find a lot to relate to here. the chorus always reminds me of those sleepless nights/days spent frantically doing meaningless shit... the whole time hiding from people i trusted less and less. it's all in this song, trust me. ;) |

| Lagwagon – Jimmy Johnson Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
^^ Yes those are the correct lyrics, although I think it's "our martyr" not "a martyr".... This song hits me hard every time. It's obviously about how cruel children can be. With the example being this fictional(?) kid Jimmy Johnson that was in special-ed, but didn't belong there. The other kids picked on him anyway. Jimmy was smart enough to understand his situation. Smart enough to feel the sting of his peer's rejection, and it ends up killing him. I was such a dick to so many kids. I feel so fucking bad now decades later. I feel like I played a part in ruining the childhood of so many kids that just had issues... I had such an easy ride, and used my comfort to torment the ones that already had it tougher than me... What a clueless prick... but I didn't know better... you can't know better at that age. You're lucky not to know better. It will never change, but I still have a lot of people to apologize to. |

| Lagwagon – Burn That Bridge When We Get To It Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
These lyrics are pretty wrong... Here's some help: Burn those bridges to the ground without a sound you just blew up. On to big or destitute? this is your heart, this is their proof. someone told you life is short but yours is long longing for validation short you never needed song and without harmony you gave them underwhelming hope faith lives work ending in a flat low gesture. passionate to some isn't that enough? up the ladder to the lounge in an old suit, you'd make them proud to crush you. seems they like watching you burn. just like the bridge you watch them burst. so burn those bridges to the ground without a care. you know you're nothing more than here, there, aimless. addicted to the sound of insufficient. only recognize for your compromise. --- I wont even get into the song's meaning because what it means to me is pretty personal like most of Joey's lyrics... I'll just say it's your typical Lagwagon song dealing with fucked up relationships, confusion, and honesty. |

| Lagwagon – Brodeo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Hey guys, I'm pretty sure none of you got the lyrics quite right yet. Listen to the acoustic version to hear the words clearly... Here's what I hear: Forgive you, if that's what you want. You roll back and your wasted, and I'm all torn up. I buried promise here. You would come back once your feeling sorry for all that you were when you found me here in the clear. No one here can sing your song. Just stand by the idiots and sing along. I've let you love before, when you were a flower on the wall I built to block out the drapes I used to need. But no one here can sing my (your) song. Just stand by the idiots and sing along. --- The song's meaning seems pretty obvious to me. He's talking to a friend, possibly himself, that has withdrawn from those around them. The cause of their suffering isn't made clear which makes the meaning pretty flexible. It means different things to me at different times, but in the end Joey tells us to buck-up. You've loved before, you can do it again. Just pretend to enjoy the people you've been hiding from and eventually you'll realize life is not so bleak. |

| Lagwagon – Billionaire Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I think the second meaning given by epicmikenomore is how the song is usually taken. Like most lagwagon songs if you strip them down to their basic meanings they are about relationships. Even the interpretation involving Bush/Iraq is placing the basic relationship structure of the song over that specific relationship (people/government). So I think this song is about a relationship based on trust. He's fleshing out how he feels about this - showing signs of desperation and despair along with a will to keep things together and acknowledgement of the good that is already there. Beautiful song lyrically, and musically it fucking rocks. One of the best on Blaze. |

| Guttermouth – Do The Hustle Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| The funny thing about this song is that skateboarding is no less lame than rollerblading. I'm sick of seeing 30 year old men riding around on narrow boards with tiny wheels... you are not 17 any more, get a fucking car. | |
| Guttermouth – Can I Borrow Some Ambition Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Mark is the only singer on Guttermouth albums afaik, I do know for sure that he sings both the verse and chorus for this song. As for what the song is actually about (yes I like it, obviously that's why I'm here in the first place)... It's an anthem for the talented slacker. Desiring the spotlight, but unwilling to show anything until it's impossibly perfect. So he just looks for excuse after excuse as to why he continues to fail at life. He's aware of his laziness, but doesn't change regardless. |
