| Rilo Kiley – Jenny, You're Barely Alive Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Here you go, guys - the most accurate analysis yet! i don't see how people are getting eating disorder out of this song. clearly she's going through some kind of existential crisis, she's not finding any fulfillment in life, she thinks life is pointless, her mortality is sinking in, and she feels like she's just a lifeless robot going through the motions. now, the line 'put something inside you to create the illusion of life' is most likely not talking about food. which is where i'm guessing most people are getting the silly eating disorder idea, i'm thinking it's a euphemism for having sex, or having children and giving birth to find fulfillment. And that really screamo part about the 'rods in your jaw,' it's touching on how jenny is afraid of the natural compulsions her body is prone to, (she's screaming because she's afraid, not angry) like her beating heart pumping blood through the body ("this time listen to the movement of your body/how it keeps on despite you, and it frightens you") and how she unstoppably grinds her teeth in her sleep. She feels in a way disconnected from her body due to, maybe, a depersonalization disorder. But, she finds happiness when she escapes life through sleep and dreaming ("the greatest escape you ever did make, put your arms by your side, left it up to fate") |

| Tennis – Origins Lyrics | 13 years ago |

Mundus has a good idea, and it would explain the title, "origins," because the song is about the origins of humanity. the opening line "Sensitive heart, you're doomed from the start" could be an allusion to the concept of original sin, which is, according to Christian beliefs, the sin all people are born with due to Adam and Eve's betrayal. Yeah, this song is pretty biblical. Far cry from Tennis's earlier work, but more ambitious. |
